Free Craft Mornings for Children
This summer, the Treasury museum offered two Family Craft sessions for local children. On the mornings of 8 and 24 August, children aged 5-11 and their parents or carers were welcomed into the Treasury to make simple craft items inspired by the objects on display. The sessions were free of charge, and over the two mornings we had over 80 happy, sticky, crafters making snake-covered Medusa-style headbands, Chinese dragon puppets, and a toadstool-inspired peg for their wellies.
Before Covid, these events used to run in the February half term, but this year we decided to offer them in the summer holidays too. We recognised the demand for affordable things for families to do during the long summer break, and therefore wanted to provide free, fun activities in this beautiful and inspiring environment. As well as being creative, the craft sessions enabled children to learn about some of the amazing objects we have in the museum.

The Treasury is open to the public every afternoon, free of charge, and houses the school’s unique collections of art and archaeology. These include artefacts from Egypt, Greece and Rome, casts of the Parthenon Frieze, and Chinese ceramics from the Tang to Qing dynasties. Groups and school visits are also welcome.
