House from Home

Houses form the heart of life at Winchester and are a home-from-home for boys, providing a supportive environment and base from which to explore all that life at the College has to offer. Each of the eleven boarding houses has its own unique character both in terms of architecture and ethos, and is where boys establish lifelong friendships and prepare for the many inter-house sports matches, socials and competitions.

The House from Home series has been developed during lockdown in the UK to see behind the doors of each of the houses, and to hear from the boys and staff on what they think makes their house special.

Du Boulay's (Cook's) House

Founded by its first Housemaster, Revd J.T.H Du Boulay (1862-1893), the house is informally known as Cook's, after its second Housemaster A.K. Cook (1893-1909). Du Boulay's has a range of facilities on site, including its own squash court, gym, pool table, two music rooms and a large garden.

In the video below, the boys and staff share with us what they are most missing about Du Boulay's, and thus give an insight into the essence of its unique spirit and atmosphere.
